the new reality

Summary |
Our opening keynote session at the 2009
PortfolioConstruction Conference debated the likely shape of the
global economic recovery, and the implications for
markets and portfolios. Would the recovery be
V-shaped - a rapid rebound in economy and markets,
as many were hoping? Or L-shaped with the economy
struggling sideways for years? Or, perhaps, a W,
bringing a double-dip downturn as government
stimulus fades? U-shaped, a longer than usual
downturn, followed by an eventual return to
prosperity? Or the more exotic square root- shaped
recovery, giving us a quick rebound later followed
by flat growth in the longer term? |
